Long House of the Hiiumaa Museum

The main house of the Hiiumaa Museum has been located in the old directors’ residence of the former Kärdla Broadcloth Factory, popularly known as the Long House, since 1998. The house was constructed in the 1830s and 40s; the 60 m long house is one of the longest wooden houses in Kärdla.
In the museum you can see the exhibition Ups and Downs – The Story of Industrial Fishing in Hiiumaa 1945–1991, which tells the story of the origin and development of industrial fishing on Hiiumaa and its impact on the social and cultural conditions which affected everyone on the island.
A souvenir and book shop with a wide selection of local handicrafts is open.
